Sorry.
Sara
Dearest Circlers,
Since I know you all were dying to know… I have taken the liberty of researching the origins of the tuba… for you!
It’s one of those cartoon instruments that really has no reason to exist except that someone had a quirky sense of humor and wanted to see what sort of ridiculous looking thing musicians could be persuaded to carry around. Musicians are gullible.
On the other side of the spectrum (from tubas, that is), the kazoo (not technically related to the tuba except that it requires the musician’s breath to make noise… but with a kazoo, the musician hums into the instrument and with a tuba the musician makes farting noises with his/her mouth) is tiny, very portable, with a much more interesting… um… sound.
Weird.
Okay… so speaking of cartoon instruments:
I have always felt sorry for the “tubaist” in a marching band. What a pain in the ass to carry that thing around!
Same with the bass drum (and since I know you’d want it….here’s a link for the BIGGEST bass drum in a marching band: http://www.purdue.edu/bands/aamb/bbd.html). By the way, I think it’s totally cheating to put a “Marching Band” instrument on a cart. Tubaists don’t get carts. Where’s the fairness?
Okay, back to cartoon instruments:
The ukulele is the newest member of my family. Technically, it belongs to Rahima. The Ozark Sufi Camp has a ukulele orchestra, which provided some serious inspiration… so now everyone in my house is developing ukulele fingertip calluses.
NOTE: The best ukulele song is NOT “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.” It is actually “Moonshadow” by Cat Stevens. I’m telling you.
You absolutely MUST go acquire a uke so you can play this song!
My chords for it: G C D (and the weird bridge near the end: A D and maybe something else strange thrown in there once or twice).
Super Sweet!
(INSERT MARCHING BAND FANFARE)

Dear Sweetie Pie Honey Dumplings,
I have often wondered why all pet names are related to sugary things…even if the sugary things don’t make any sense. Why is that?
Why don’t we nickname each other things like:
Kale Chip or Pizza Pie?
It also seems important to pet name each other edible things. I think that’s weird.
What about:
Sunshine Daffodil or Grass Clippings or Teacup?
On an unrelated note:
I know I have told all of you that I plan to come back as a domesticated cat living with a lovely lesbian couple in post-mummification Egypt… but I have changed my mind.
Too many conditional considerations with domesticated cat life. I have decided to come back as a sea sponge. I am getting some mixed responses when informing my friends of this plan… but there are so many undeniable perks including: no furballs, no tail to get caught in doors, no fear of water, no fear of anything for that matter. After sharing this ambition with the Fantastic Fairy Queen Ashera, she showed me this AMAZING video.
Please enjoy!

Useful life tip from my own personal experience:
If you want to give yourself a haircut all yourself, make sure your arms are LONGER than your hair. It’s important. But you know, some things are better NOT to do all by yourself: brain surgery, back massages, carburetor priming, tax preparation, criminal defense in drug-related cases, manicures on your dominant hand, etc.
I do not know all of these from personal experience, but I’m feeling relatively confident in including all of them here.
It is my sincere wish for all of you to be free from stress of all forms.
Love and Joy!

Some mornings,
Dear Hibernating Hermits and/or Delirious Deviants,
Welcome to Imbolc… not quite… but pretty darn close. Spring is just around the corner. I have submitted a petition to the Great Goddess asking for her to take that corner at breakneck speeds with the pedal to the metal…
And just to help get all y’all in the mood, here’s a fun little gem (I bet y’all didn’t know this guy was such a Pagan attuned Sufi)…

In case you need another inspirational video, try this one. I was gonna send you a time lapse video of flowers… but decided this is WAY better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRmBChQjZPs
And in case you need a cookie, I’ll have some for you at Zikr.
Speaking of cookies in conjunction with Zikr, I’ve recently decided the best way to keep your entire physical world in balance is to eat and exercise at the same time. I know your mama said that you need to wait some reasonable stretch of time before moving your body after eating… but she was wrong. Sorry, but she was. I think that if we eat and then sit around, the calories just settle in and never want to move… just like our children. The trick is to burn them WHILE consuming them (the calories, not your children). So, if you feel so inclined, please join me this month in my calorie-neutralizing regimen… you may want to install a treadmill in your kitchen or a stationary bike…
Hey, did you know that there are actually treadmill desks? It’s true. I heard it from two different sources one of which is sometimes reliable.
You can watch movies, television, play sudoku (my personal vice), or zone out on video games WHILE eating pizza AND exercising.
Who knew?
Love and Tulips,
Sara

So…
Darlings…
I’m in the desert having my entire body dehydrated after our super lush Colorado year… thinking…
There is some serious genius behind living in the tropics. Humidity, sunshine, luscious greenery, instantaneous mold on every food item…
If I move to the Caribbean, will you join me? Seasonal celebrations won’t be as dramatic, but the oceanic rituals would more than make up for it… don’t you think?
But, for real… I am thinking it would be so fun to organize a Goddess caravan to the Sekhmet Temple in Nevada. I’m doing some dust-devil-style brain-storming about how to coordinate a Spiritual retreat for 12 sincere participants… It would include ritual, chanting, meditation, communion with the jackelopes, along with collaboratively created meals, and some service work on the temple grounds. Wanna?
Of course I would make it VERY affordable.
While that one is percolating… like some delectable coffee on a cowgirl’s campfire… Here are the pending circles for the first month of 2013…
I love the sound of “2013”…

Sunrise Ranch is gorgeous and the food is awesome! Join us again or for the first time!
I just want y’all to know that I was tempted to intersperse this mailer with little one-line blips of Christmas carols… but I decided against it because I love you and I wouldn’t want you to see a three-word prompt that would trigger your malicious minds to melodically torment you for months and miserable months even after your friendly grocers have returned to their senses and started decking the halls and aisles with cupids and hearts and rose-colored chocolates. You’re welcome!
Instead… I thought I’d just tell you a little story about a garden gnome named Gerome. Gerome was German and had no home. In the dead of winter (which is actually the “live” of winter and the “dead” of summer), Gerome the garden gnome found some funny bunny rabbits to bunk with and they all had a rip-roaring, rocking, knocking, bippety-bopping good time until spring!
The end.
Love to all of you, and to all a good, champagne-infested, kissy-faced, confetti-ified New Year!
Sara
Darlings, Sweeties, Beloveds,

NO WOMEN’S DANCE IN DECEMBER!!!
But
YES TO BUCHE de NOEL! Birthday Cake for JESUS!!!
NO FORT COLLINS DANCE on the 27th

YES TO SUPER BRANDified WASSAIL!!! Intoxication (of one form or another does seem to help us get through the holidays… I’m not encouraging… just saying)
NO SUFI CIRCLE on the 31st
But
YES TO ALL NIGHT SCRYING RITUALS… my mama does this witchy ritual every year in which she melts down pewter and drops it into water to make little explosions of hot metal… then the hard, pewter is fished out of the water and examined for omens… I would say not to try this at home, but that wouldn’t be any fun… so instead I’ll say, ask my mom and dad about it before trying this at home. My dad NEVER gives dangerous or sketchy advice to ANYONE about ANYTHING!
NO MAMA SING on the 1st
But
YES to sleeping in and sleeping off the headaches, heartaches and bellyaches of all this cultural craziness. I suggest extending the “sleep in” until at least St Patrick’s Day if not longer.
NO SUNRISE RANCH DANCE on the 1st
But
YES to all the grocery stores FINALLY going back to their usual disgusting selection of muzak!!!! Hey, did you know there’s all this science and a serious market around “Muzak?” Who knew! Check this out… made me laugh: http://www.muzak.com/
