| Beautiful Community, Falling into polarizations is so easy. Let’s not. Developing spaciousness in the heart, a compassionate regard for “others,” and cultivating the greatest possible field of understanding; that sounds like a good idea. When I first started attending Dances of Universal Peace, I was 17 years old, and it was easy, easy, easy to love and feel an open-hearted response to everyone. The more I heard of people’s opinions, stories, personalities, and lives, the harder it became to feel spaciousness and warm toward them. That is natural…and it is also a choice. It is not a coincidence that the spiritual and religious teachings continue to guide us to overcome our tendencies to judge and condemn. We are invited again and again to leave the judgments in the hands of the Divine Being, Who clearly has more wisdom and a bigger heart than we do. So…let’s try to give the critical mind some direction that is wholesome and wise. And let’s keep the heart busy with love, devotion, and faith.
